Amy Benton, PT, DPT, CSCS, SFMA, FMS has been a Physical Therapist for 12 years and founder of the Therapeutic Associates Inc Dance Rehabilitation program that aims to provide Injury prevention, treatment and performance training to performing artists. She specializes in working with dancers, gymnasts, aerialist, Ice skaters and circus artists at all skill levels. Amy is the founder and creator of her Dance Cross-Training workshop offered at studios throughout the state.
Amy was a dance major at Goucher College and went on to dance professionally in Boston while earning her doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from Simmons College in Boston, MA. She returned home to Portland and performed with AWOL Dance Collective for 4 years, combining her dance training with aerial arts.
Amy’s passion for training movement led her to become a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist while actively pursuing her manual therapy certification through the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT). In the clinic, she treats dancers of all ages and abilities with a hands on approach combined with her training in the Functional Movement System, ASTYM soft tissue mobilization techniques, Pilates and Yoga to provide comprehensive, technique centered rehabilitation. Amy is the lead Physical Therapist for The Portland Ballet. She is an active member of the Dance Wire health care network, and a member of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science.
